Welcome to New South’s Portal to the Past
New South Associates Invites You to Discover Georgia Archaeology at 13th Annual Archaeology Day
What began as a small neighborhood happening back in 2012 has blossomed into one of Stone Mountain’s most popular annual events. On Saturday, May 3rd, New South Associates welcomes the public to learn about the real work of preserving Georgia’s history, with activities that bring the past to life. The event will take place from 10 am – 2 pm at the Stone Mountain campus located at 6150 East Ponce de Leon Ave.

Visitors will also be able to participate in popular archaeology activities including an excavation pit, decorating rock art, atlatl throwing, and touring through Georgia’s history with Abby the ArchaeoBus. Representatives from local archaeology societies and university programs will also be onsite to explain the significance of protecting and preserving Georgia’s archaeological sites. This year’s event will be packed with activities for both kids and adults alike!
Food and beverages will be available for a small donation, with all proceeds going to The Society for Georgia Archaeology.
New South Associates is a women-owned small business that provides cultural resource management services. Incorporated in 1988, it is nationally recognized for its ability to integrate studies of sites and structures of the past with planning and construction for the future. Visitors can meet and ask questions directly to the experts and learn about the real work of archaeology today.
This free, family-friendly event supports National Preservation Month and Georgia Archaeology Month’s message to educate the public about the significance of protecting and preserving Georgia’s archaeological sites.
