New South Associates Invites You to Discover African American Foodways and Culture at 12th Annual Archaeology Day

We are very excited to host New South’s 12th annual Archaeology Day on May 4th!  This year’s theme is African American Foodways & Culture!

Activities will include basketweaving, decorating rock art, excavation and mapping, flint-knapping, spear throwing with an atlatl, storytelling, and more!

Special Guests including:

  • Rebecca Gilliard – Handmade Sweetgrass Baskets
  • Mama Koku’s Storytellin’
  • Sankonscious Percussion Ensemble – Dancing and Drumming

This free, family-friendly event supports National Preservation Month and Georgia Archaeology Month’s message to educate the public about the significance of protecting and preserving Georgia’s archaeological sites.

Parking will be available around our campus, and we will have a drop-off/pick-up zone as well.
