State and Federal Agency Groundbreakers 

Chip Morgan – Chip Morgan served as archaeologist in the Historic Preservation Division of Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources for 28 years before retiring in 2002. He authored dozens of archaeological reports and served as the president of the Society of Georgia Archaeology.

Sylvia Flowers

Sylvia Flowers – Sylvia Flowers served as the Cultural Resource Specialist at Ocmulgee National Monument where she made many contributions, including starting the Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration and building a closer relationship with the Muscogee Nation. She was the first woman to serve as a Master Ranger at Ocmulgee National Monument.  

Eric Duff

Eric Duff – Eric Duff’s career at the Georgia Department of Transportation has seen him rise from Archaeologist to Chief Archaeologist to Director of the Cultural Resources Program and ultimately to Director of the Office of Environmental Services. During his tenure GDOT has produced number historic contexts and interpretive projects including videos and traveling exhibits and has received awards of recognition from the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, the American Association for State and Local History, the Archaeology Channel and others. He also led the development of a strong and collaborative working relationship with the state’s Federally recognized Native American tribes. 

Teresa Paglione

Teresa Paglione – Teresa Paglione is a Cultural Resource Specialist at the Natural Resources Conservation Service and was actively involved in public outreach. She also worked as a GDOT archaeologist for several years, where she authored hundreds of reports in Georgia.
