Meet the vendors!

We are thrilled that Rebecca Gilliard, historical Sweetgrass Basket maker, will be joining us again at this year’s Archaeology Day! She will be demonstrating the art of sweetgrass basket weaving that has been passed down from generation to generation. Every basket she weaves is one of a kind and serves many purposes.

Rebecca Gilliard learned how to make baskets form her aunt when she was only 10 years old, but she didn’t pick it back up until she was in her 20s. Since then, she has made a business of teaching people how important this heritage craft is to preserve. She taught all three of her daughters to ensure it continues to get passed down from one generation to the next.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the history and culture behind sweetgrass basket weaving. If you have any questions, feel free to ask Rebecca during the event.
